Distribution channels
Authorized medicinal products may be dispensed in pharmacies and medical practices with a license to operate a practice dispensary. Drugstores and naturopaths with a license to operate a practice dispensary may dispense medicinal products within their area of competence.
Import of Austrian medicinal products
Due to the agreement with Austria, authorizations granted by the competent Austrian authority within the framework of the mutual recognition procedure or decentralized procedure (MRP/DCP) are automatically valid in Liechtenstein, provided the applicant has explicitly applied for this. Only medicinal products with a valid authorization for Liechtenstein may be imported into Liechtenstein.

Non-authorized medicinal products may also be imported into Liechtenstein and used in Liechtenstein under certain circumstances.
Pharmacies and drugstores
In individual cases, pharmacies and drugstores may obtain medicinal products from the EEA for customers if they comply with the legally defined requirements. Further information can be found here.
Doctors and physicians
Doctors may import medicines from abroad for individual patients if they have a special authorization from Swissmedic. Doctors who have a license to run a practice pharmacy may import medicinal products for a specific patient if they meet the requirements defined in the Medicinal Products Licensing Ordinance, SR 812.212.1.

Private individuals may import small quantities of foreign medicinal products into Liechtenstein exclusively for their own use.

Control of pharmacies, drugstores and practice pharmacies
The pharmacies, drugstores and practice pharmacies of doctors and naturopaths are supervised by the Office of Public Health.
The guidelines of the cantonal pharmacists of Eastern and Central Switzerland and the guidelines of the Swiss Association of Cantonal Pharmacists, in which Liechtenstein is also represented, are used as an aid for the inspections.
The Office for Food Control and Veterinary Affairs is responsible for monitoring veterinary practice pharmacies.
