Au Pair (L)

Legal basis:

  • Art. 17 of the Personenfreizügigkeitsgesetzes (PFZG, LGBl. 2009 No. 348) applies to EEA and CH nationals

  • Art. 19 of the Ausländergesetzes (AUG, LGBl. 2008 No. 311) applies to non-EEA and non CH nationals

Scope of application:

All nationals who have a basic knowledge of German and would like to improve this as an au pair.

Important information:

The stay as an au pair must last at least 6, but no longer than 12 months. According to the government decree of September 5, 2006, the minimum gross salary for a 30-hour week is CHF 1,835. For a shorter working week, the gross salary is calculated on a pro rata basis of CHF 1,835. The net salary may not be less than CHF 700.00.

On the part of the host family:

 

  • The colloquial language in the family is German and at least one family member is a native German speaker.
  • At least one minor child must live in the household. Grandchildren, nephews or nieces will not be considered.
  • The au pair must be insured against illness and accident with a Liechtenstein insurance company. The costs for this are borne by the host family.Au-Pair employees must be cared for by one parent for at least half of their working hours. With two adults in the household, a maximum of 150% employment is permitted.The au pair must be provided with accommodation (single room) and meals

On the part of the au pair:

  • Minimum age 18 years
  • Maximum age 25 years, which must not have been reached by the time the job starts
  • Basic knowledge of the German language (for other nationals)
  • The German language course is compulsory. The costs are borne by the host family

Au-pair employment is not permitted if between the host family and the au pair:

  • a family relationship exists; or
  • the same mother tongue is spoken

The au pair may not be employed as a nurse, geriatric nurse or animal carer, or as a domestic or agricultural worker.

Terms:

The complete application must be submitted to the Migration and Passport Office at least 14 days before the planned start date. For persons who are subject to visa requirements, we recommend submitting the application four weeks before the start of the job so that the planned entry date can be met.
