The natural history collection comprises around 13,000 inventoried objects and several thousand others, including specimens relating to natural history research in Liechtenstein. These include zoological, botanical and geological specimens:
- Vascular plants (Waldburger Collection), mosses, lichens and fungi
- native mammals and birds
- Butterflies, ants and grasshoppers
- Specimens and models of all native fish, reptiles and amphibians
- Objects from the zoological collection of Prince Hans von und zu Liechtenstein
- around 70 rock samples from Liechtenstein
The Natural History Collection is the contact point for questions about the fauna and flora of Liechtenstein and displays its specimens in exhibitions and makes them available for educational purposes.
- Lending collection for schools, clubs and private individuals(conditions; holdings)
- Natural history library with over 1000 specialist books (expert search: CCL=AUSNS)
- Degreasing of animal bones for third parties
- Viewing of the collection for groups of 5-15 people (appointment by arrangement)
- Scientific collection can be used by researchers on site
- Training of taster apprentices (zoological preparation) and interns (collection care).
