Children, minors and people under guardianship

Children, minors and people under guardianship must be accompanied by their legal representative when applying for an identity card.

Identity cards are valid for five years for persons up to the age of 12, from the age of 12 they are valid for 10 years.

A photo is required for children from birth. Even if the face of a small child is not yet as informative as that of an adult and also changes quickly, it already has some clearly visible features such as the position of the ears, the shape of the eyes, etc., which can contribute to identification.

  • For children up to the age of 7, three crosses (xxx) are shown on the identity card instead of a signature.
