The Office consists of the four departments of archaeology, conservation of historic monuments, national archives and cultural activities, as well as the specialist LiVE.

The Archaeology is responsible for the undiminished preservation, permanent protection and research of the archaeological heritage. Where the archaeological soil archive is endangered, it is scientifically studied, documented, and published.

The Conservation of Historic Monuments is entrusted with the recording, documentation, preservation, care and protection of movable and immovable cultural property. To protect cultural property from damage, destruction, theft and loss, the Cultural Property Protection Department is concerned with the organization of effective prevention and damage management measures (emergency concepts) in connection with disasters and emergencies.
