Office of Cultural Affairs

The Office of Cultural Affairs is concerned with Liechtenstein's cultural past, present and future. It researches, preserves and develops the cultural heritage. By organizing projects, it also provides impulses in the field of culture. The Office consists of the four departments of archaeology, conservation of historic monuments, national archives and cultural activities, as well as the specialist LiVE.

The Archaeology is responsible for the undiminished preservation, permanent protection and research of the archaeological heritage. Where the archaeological soil archive is endangered, it is scientifically studied, documented, and published.

The Conservation of Historic Monuments is entrusted with the recording, documentation, preservation, care and protection of movable and immovable cultural property. To protect cultural property from damage, destruction, theft and loss, the Cultural Property Protection Department is concerned with the organization of effective prevention and damage management measures (emergency concepts) in connection with disasters and emergencies.

The Cultural activities department is a coordinating body for cultural concerns and is responsible for organizing and implementing cultural projects.

The National Archives  as a memory institution, secures documents on the history of the Principality of Liechtenstein in order to make state and state-related actions comprehensible for future generations. In doing so, an authentic and unaltered tradition for the preservation of legal security is in the foreground of the activity.

The division LiVE (Records Management Liechtenstein) is responsible for business and legal requirements of digital records management and the management system for the National Administration.
