Liechtensteiner with permanent residence in a Contracting State

With the "European Convention on the Compensation of Victims of Violent Crimes", victims of violent crimes are entitled to compensation from the Contracting State in whose territory the crime, namely serious bodily injury or damage to health, was committed, unless compensation could be fully covered from other sources. The reparation of the wrong shall be made to nationals of States Parties to the Convention and to nationals of all member States of the Council of Europe, who are permanent residents of the State Party in whose territory the crime was committed. At a minimum, loss of earnings, medical treatment and hospitalization expenses, funeral expenses, and, in the case of dependents, loss of maintenance must be covered. On the one hand, the ratification of the Convention results in an improved position for those Liechtenstein citizens who become victims of a violent crime in a State party to the Convention; on the other hand, it is also appropriate for reasons of justice and European solidarity to address the situation of victims of intentional acts of violence on a cross-border basis.
