Judicial Affairs (JUS)

The Judicial Affairs Division deals in particular with the areas of civil law, including the Law on Persons and Companies; criminal law; enforcement and insolvency law; procedural law in civil, criminal and administrative law; mediation; data protection; coordination of mutual legal assistance in criminal and civil matters; extradition and transit; assessment of issues relating to the penal system; victim assistance; official liability; administration of justice; legal bases for lawyers and notaries and procedural assistance. In these fields of law, the Judicial Affairs Division (JUS) is in charge of the following duties: elaboration of legislative projects and law amendments; elaboration and drafting of Draft Bills, Government Bills as well as statements of the Government to the Parliament; postulate and interpellation responses; management and cooperation within the framework of domestic and foreign working groups and committees; preparation and elaboration of Government decisions; cooperation with domestic and foreign official bodies. In particular, the staff also acts as responsible EEA experts in the fields assigned to the Division in the implementation of EEA law into the national body of law.

In the area of mutual legal assistance in civil matters, the division coordinates the processing of civil mutual legal assistance requests via diplomatic channels.
