The Fire Service Act forms the basis for the fire department in Liechtenstein. Its purpose is to protect people, animals, the environment and property from fire, natural hazards and other damage.

The fire departments are organized at municipal level. Each municipality is required to maintain a fire department appropriate to local conditions and needs.

The Fire Service Inspectorate acts as the overarching authority for a modern fire department. In doing so, it relies on event-related training of the fire departments and a corresponding quality check.

Ongoing adjustments to processes ensure that the fire department adapts to social, technical and organizational changes.

In special and extraordinary situations, the fire departments are the most important partner in the civil protection system in Liechtenstein.
