Care benefits and reimbursement of costs

Medical treatment: Compulsory accident insurance covers the costs of

  • outpatient treatment by a doctor, dentist or, on their instructions, by a person in another healthcare profession;
  • medicines and analyses prescribed by a doctor or dentist;
  • Treatment, meals and accommodation in the general ward of a sanatorium;
  • medically prescribed aftercare and spa treatments;
  • medicines and medical devices used for treatment.

Costs for medically prescribed home care and for aids that compensate for physical damage or loss of function (e.g. prostheses) as well as costs for material damage, travel, transportation and rescue costs, funeral transportation and burial costs are also covered.

In the case of medical treatment abroad, the insured person is generally reimbursed a maximum of twice the amount of the costs that would have been incurred for treatment in Liechtenstein or in the nearest suitable medical facility in Liechtenstein.

Cash benefits

The maximum amount of insured earnings is CHF 148,200 per year. Daily allowances are calculated on the basis of the last salary received prior to the accident; pensions are calculated on the basis of the salary received within one year prior to the accident.

Daily allowance benefits

If the insured person becomes fully or partially unable to work as a result of an accident, they are entitled to a daily allowance. In the event of full incapacity for work, this amounts to 80% of the insured earnings and is paid from the 2nd day after the day of the accident. In the event of partial incapacity for work, the daily allowance is reduced accordingly.

Disability pension

If the insured person becomes disabled as a result of an accident, they are entitled to a disability pension from a 10% disability. In the case of full disability, this amounts to 80% of the insured earnings, and correspondingly less in the case of partial disability. If the insured person is entitled to a pension from the old-age, survivors' or disability insurance(AHV ), the accident insurance will grant him/her a complementary pension which supplements the AHV / IV pension up to 90% of the insured earnings. If the degree of disability of the pension recipient changes significantly, the pension will be increased, reduced or canceled accordingly.

Integrity compensation

If the insured person suffers significant permanent damage to their physical or mental integrity as a result of the accident, they are entitled to appropriate integrity compensation in the form of a lump-sum benefit.

Compensation for helplessness

Anyone who is permanently dependent on the help of third parties for daily living or personal supervision due to disability is entitled to a helplessness allowance. The amount of the helplessness allowance is calculated according to the degree of helplessness.

Survivors' pensions

If the insured person dies as a result of the accident, the surviving spouse and children are entitled to a survivor's pension under certain conditions.

Survivors' pensions are based on the insured earnings:

  • 40% for widows and widowers
  • 15% for half-orphans
  • 25% for full orphans

for several survivors together, however, a maximum of 70%.

If the survivors are entitled to old-age, survivors' or disability insurance(AHV ) pensions, they will be granted a complementary pension which supplements the AHV / IV pension up to 90% of the insured earnings.
