Language and reading promotion

Languages are an important part of learning at school and are incorporated into all subject areas. Without oral and written language skills, no one can succeed in school and in professional life.

The subject area languages includes all sub-areas listed in the Lehrplan LiLe : German (incl. German as a second language), English (1st foreign language), French (2nd foreign language) and Latin.

In addition, the School Board represents Liechtenstein at the Council of Europe's European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML) in Graz. Link: https://www.ecml.at/

Currently important topics of the school district in the field of languages are:

  • Early (language) support: 9 community school sites offer weekly voluntary services for children before kindergarten entry and their caregivers: Ruggell, Eschen-Nendeln, Gamprin, Mauren/Schaanwald, Schaan, Vaduz, Planken, Balzers and Triesen.

Here is the general flyer with all offers and information.

  • Sponsorship Liechtensteiner Buchtage, BuchBar

The basic guidelines for quality assurance and development in Liechtenstein schools in the compulsory education sector are contained in the Guideline for Quality Assurance and Development in the Liechtenstein School System (673 kb) of 1999. Its instruments are still valid. Partial adaptations have been made, e.g. in the area of staff evaluation.

The following list of criteria is part of the instruments for the assessment of teaching staff: Criteria for the Assessment of Teaching Staff (61 kb).
