Wedding ceremony

Weddings take place at the Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office in Vaduz on Wednesdays and Fridays.

A marriage ceremony lasts around 20 to 25 minutes. Two witnesses of legal age must be present at the wedding ceremony. Upon request and if possible, wedding ceremonies are performed in German and also in English.

For bridal couples who do not understand any of these languages, an interpreter must be consulted.

Witnesses

Two witnesses of legal age who have passed the age of 18 are required for a marriage ceremony. Whether these are male or female witnesses is irrelevant.

Place for the marriage ceremony

In the Principality of Liechtenstein, bridal couples can only enter into marriage in the wedding room of the civil registry office. Outside the wedding room, a marriage ceremony is only permitted if it is established by a medical certificate that the groom or bride are prevented from attending due to illness and that it is unreasonable for them to appear at the civil registry office due to their state of health.

Church wedding

A church wedding in the Principality of Liechtenstein is only possible if the marriage ceremony has previously taken place at the Civil Registry Office. For a religious marriage ceremony, the marriage certificate from the civil registry office must be presented to the priest. Marriage certificates are available from the Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office, provided the marriage took place in Liechtenstein. However, Liechtenstein citizens who have married abroad and whose marriages have been duly registered with the Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office can also obtain marriage certificates from us.

Double wedding

If desired, a double wedding or the marriage of several couples at the same time is also possible. Please contact the Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office in good time to clarify the exact details.
