Groundwater

Liechtenstein is in the fortunate position of having access to above-average water resources in relation to its size. Thus, about half of the drinking water consumption is covered with spring water from slope and mountain areas. The other half is supplemented with groundwater withdrawals from the Rhine gravels of the valley floor, which are highly dependent on Rhine infiltration and groundwater inflow from the Sargans basin in terms of quantity and quality.

The groundwater conditions in the Principality of Liechtenstein are comprehensively presented in the Groundwater Report.

Groundwater Report 2018

The location of the mean groundwater level is shown in the isohyps map.

The groundwater bodies of the Rhine Valley Plain are shown in the aquifer map.

Height, temperature and conductivity of the groundwater is continuously measured by means of 10 measuring stations near the Rhine.
