TBE

Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE)

Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is transmitted by ticks infected with the encephalitis virus. In Liechtenstein, it is assumed that the entire area below 2,000 meters in altitude is a risk area. There is an effective vaccination to protect against TBE infection. However, there is no vaccination against Lyme borreliosis, which is also transmitted by ticks and is a bacterial disease. Here too, long clothing, tick spray and a hat protect against transmission. After each stay in the forest, the clothes should be washed and the body searched for ticks.

Who should vaccinate against TBE?

Adults and children 6 years of age and older who live or temporarily reside in an area with TBE-infected ticks.

When should you get vaccinated?

Warmth and humidity activate the ticks. Since you have to have three vaccinations within 6-12 months, the winter time offers itself as a vaccination time. Thus, full protection is guaranteed during the most dangerous period. However, the vaccination can be carried out throughout the year.
