Consumer Protection

In recent years, there has been an enormous development in the field of economy and technical progress, which in turn has led to a variety of new types of goods and new sales and other forms of distribution. This situation is not necessarily beneficial for consumers, as it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep track of the market. Likewise, it is not getting easier to find the basis of assessment for an optimal purchase choice. Liechtenstein cannot be spared from this development either. Here, too, the protection concerns of consumers are coming more and more to the fore over the course of time.

Since October 23, 2002, Liechtenstein has had its own Consumer Protection Act (KSchG; LGBl. 2002 No. 164). According to its basic intentions, the Consumer Protection Act is intended to help compensate for the economic and legal inferiority of the consumer in business transactions. The Liechtenstein Consumer Protection Act covers the following topics in particular: Withdrawal rights, Impermissible contract components, Cost estimates, Warranty and guarantee provisions, Special types of contracts, Installment transactions, Down payment, Installment letter, Credit transactions of spouses, Association action, Package travel.
