Emergency planning
If a major natural event is imminent, the aim is to limit the consequences as far as possible by quickly warning the emergency services. Only thanks to timely information and with the help of emergency plans is it possible for our emergency services on site to minimize the extent of damage through immediate measures, such as the maintenance of debris collectors, the construction of mobile barriers or, in an emergency, the evacuation of endangered persons.
To this end, the ABS has drawn up operational plans for various events, which are constantly updated and practiced together with the responsible persons on site:
- Avalanche service
- Water rescue services (inland waters and Rhine)
- Storm defense
- Forest fire
Organization and tasks
The avalanche service was founded in the 1970s and is primarily responsible for prevention and intervention in the event of avalanches.
The members of the avalanche service are appointed by the government for a period of four years. In particular, the avalanche service is responsible for the protection of inhabited settlements, public roads and marked winter hiking trails.
During the winter months, the snow situation is constantly monitored by the core group and the necessary measurement data is collected. This results in recommendations for action and suitable safety measures, including evacuations. Depending on the measures taken, both the population and the media are informed promptly. The measures currently in place are published here.
