Definition

An infectious disease (syn.: infectious disease, contagious disease or infectious illness, communicable disease) is generally defined as any illness caused by pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa (unicellular organisms) or harmful prions (protein molecules) in humans, animals or plants.
