Building services systems

Energy-efficient and ecological building technology systems

The installation of energy-efficient and ecological building technology systems (e.g. heat pumps and wood heating systems) in residential, industrial and commercial buildings up to 1,750m2 SFR is subsidized. Large installations with more than 1,750 m² of floor space, such as large wood chip furnaces, which serve the purpose of the Energy Efficiency Act in a special way, can be subsidized as >Other installations.

Funding application

The funding application and the power of attorney must always be submitted in full and on paper, including all enclosures. Submissions by e-mail are not sufficient. The content of applications will only be processed once the application documents have been received in full.

The amount of funding depends on the energy reference area and the type of building services system. From 1 January 2023 onwards, funding for energy reference areas between 0 and 500 m² is granted as a flat rate.

Using the funding amount calculation tool, you can determine your individual entitlement to funding.

Calculation example for existing buildings up to 500 m²*

Heat pump Heat pump - geothermal probe CHF 7’544.-
Heat pump - air CHF 6’352.-
Bonus: for implementing a heat pump operation QM

Holzheizung Pellet firing CHF 7’714.-
Central wood heating (+ storage tank) CHF 9’758.-
Bonus: if the wood firing system is equipped with a particle separator
* However, including municipal contributions, total public funding is limited to a maximum of 100% of the eligible additional costs. For companies, the applicable state aid rules apply.
  • Only new, state-of-the-art systems and system components and appliances are to be used.

  • Domestic hot water preparation must primarily be provided by the funded building services system, thermal solar collectors or a heat pump water heater.
Pure electric water heaters are not permitted for funded installations.
In the event of non-compliance with this requirement, the funding contribution will be reduced by CHF 2,000.

  • Electrically operated pipe trace heating systems and hot water circulation systems must be connected with a timer, ideally via an all-pole disconnection point (socket). This is because pipe trace heating systems are large consumers of electricity and should be operated in a targeted manner. If there is a disconnection point (socket), consumption can be measured and simply unplugged if unnecessary operation/service is required.

  • Circulation pumps of energy efficiency class A (EEI ≤ 0.23) must be installed for hot water circulation. If a circulation pump that does not correspond to energy efficiency class A (EEI ≤ 0.23) is installed, the subsidy will be reduced by CHF 300 per pump.

  • If a wood-burning boiler with "Bonus particle separator" has been approved, the particle separator must guarantee a separation efficiency of at least 60% in normal operation.

  • If a heat pump with "Bonus operating QM" has been guaranteed, the system efficiency plus must be proven over one year of operation before payment is made. The data must be provided for a total of 5 years of operation. The system automatically takes part in a research study when the Bonus Operating QM is claimed. The data can be published in this context.

  • The heating and hot water systems, including all distribution pipes, must be fitted with continuous thermal insulation. The minimum insulation thicknesses can be found in the following table:

Nominal pipe diameter DN

Inch

for λ > 0.03 W/mK
up to ≤ 0.05 W/mK

for λ ≤ 0.03 W/mK
10-15 3⁄8" - 1⁄2" 40 mm 30 mm
20-32 3⁄4" - 1 1⁄4" 50 mm 40 mm
40-50 1 1⁄2" - 2" 60 mm 50 mm
65-80 2 1⁄2" - 3" 80 mm 60 mm
100-150 4" - 6" 100 mm 80 mm
175-200 7" - 8" 120 mm 80 mm

Building services installations are not eligible for subsidies if they are used as supplementary heating to a sufficient (monovalent) heating system.

Start of Construction – Forfeiture of Entitlement The entitlement to receive funding grants lapses if the measures are commenced before a legally binding approval of the funding has been issued.

Project Author / Planner Funding grants are only paid out if competent planning and professional implementation of the measures are ensured.

Time Limit In accordance with Art. 25 of the Energy Act (EEG), the funding approval is subject to a time limit. The measure must be started within one year of the decision on the granting of funding and completed within two years.

Mandatory Other Provisions The measure is not subsidized if it is mandatory due to other legal regulations in accordance with Art. 4. para. 2a) EEG (e.g. development plan, air conditioning, swimming pool heating, conversion, etc.).

Repeat Funding Funding grants are awarded only once per measure; repeat funding of the same measure is only possible after a period of 20 years has elapsed.
For the assessment of any potential funding after 20 years, the original funding approval date is decisive.
