Citizenship

In order to marry in the Principality of Liechtenstein, the groom or bride must either have Liechtenstein citizenship or be a permanent resident of the Principality. Two foreigners residing abroad cannot marry in the Principality of Liechtenstein.

Citizenship

Marriage has no effect on the acquisition or loss of Liechtenstein citizenship.

Marriage with minors

In order to marry in the Principality of Liechtenstein, the bride and groom must be of legal age, i.e. they must have passed the age of 18. However, in exceptional cases, if serious considerations justify it, the court may declare a bride or groom to be of marriageable age with the consent of the legal representative.

Registered partnership

Same-sex couples have also been able to register their partnership in the Principality of Liechtenstein since 01.09.2011.

Marriage of tourists

In order to marry in the Principality of Liechtenstein, the groom or bride must either be a Liechtenstein citizen or have permanent residence in the Principality. Two foreigners residing abroad who are only in the Principality of Liechtenstein for vacation purposes cannot marry in the Principality of Liechtenstein.
