Presentation of credentials 

Once agrément has been granted the protocol office shall contact the mission to arrange a date for the presentation of credentials.

Letters of credence and letters of recall signed by foreign heads of state shall be directed to H. S. H. the Reigning Prince. The corresponding envelopes shall be addressed to H. S. H. the Hereditary Prince. 

The sequence and ceremonial for the presentation of credentials shall be communicated to the head of mission by email. It shall include the following: 

  • The head of mission shall arrive at the hotel in Vaduz specified by protocol.
  • At the hotel he or she shall be received by a protocol representative who shall accompany the head of mission until his or her return to the hotel.
  • The head of mission shall be driven to the Government building in a government limousine escorted by the police. This shall be followed by a ten-minute courtesy visit to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Director of the Office for Foreign Affairs or his deputy will also be present.
  • The head of mission shall be introduced to the Foreign Minister by the protocol representative. The copy of the letter of credence and the copy of the letter of recall shall be presented to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
  • This shall be followed by a transfer to Vaduz Castle where H. S. H. the Hereditary Prince will receive the head of mission in the library. 
  • The head of mission shall be introduced to H. S. H. the Hereditary Prince by the protocol representative. 
  • The form of address for H. S. H. the Hereditary Prince is “Your Serene Highness”. After the greeting the head of mission shall present the letter of credence and the letter of recall. There shall be no formal speech.
  • An official photograph shall be taken.
  • H. S. H. the Hereditary Prince and the head of mission shall sit down for a private conversation.
  • After approximately ten minutes the protocol officer shall enter the room to lead the head of mission back to the limousine.
  • Next follows the transfer to the hotel in the limousine with the sending state's pennant. 

The language regime shall be German, English or French. For other languages the head of mission is requested to bring an interpreter and to notify the protocol office in advance.

The dress code for this ocassion is a dark suit, national dress or uniform.

The media shall be informed about the presentation of credentials by means of a press release.
