EU/EEA Digital COVID Certificate

COVID-19-Certificate-System has been discontinued

No COVID certificates will be issued after September 1, 2023

The government of the Principality of Liechtenstein has decided to amend the COVID-19 regulation in its meeting on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. The system for issuing COVID-19-certificates has been discontinued

The EU-compatible COVID-certificate was introduced in Liechtenstein in June 2021 and enabled forgery-proof and internationally recognized proof of a COVID-19 vaccination, a passed disease or a negative test result. Since the abolition of the certificate requirement in Liechtenstein and Switzerland in February 2022, Liechtenstein COVID-certificates have continued to be issued to facilitate freedom of travel for the Liechtenstein population.

The system for issuing and verifying COVID-certificates has been discontinued in Liechtenstein - analogous to Switzerland - as of the end of August 2023. This step took place against the background that the legal basis for the European Union digital COVID-certificate (EU DCC) expired at the end of June 2023. Due to the discontinuation of this legal basis, no more certificates will be issued in Liechtenstein.

Currently, only isolated countries still require proof of vaccination, testing or recovery upon entry. Therefore, the EU decided on June 27, 2023, not to further extend the legal basis for the EU DCC. Thus, as well as in view of the stable epidemiological situation, the need for travel facilitation certificates will also cease for Liechtenstein. From September 1, 2023, no more COVID-certificates will be issued.

A paper copy of each certificate was sent in the mail. To retain existing electronic certificates, certificate holders can print them out from the eID app or save them in an alternative form during a transition period until the end of September 2023. At the beginning of October, the certificate system will be discontinued and the data will be deleted.

In addition, in the few cases where COVID-19-vaccination confirmation is still required for entry, alternative proof is usually accepted. The yellow vaccination booklet of the World Health Organization (WHO) also continues to be an internationally recognized document for proof of vaccinations.
