The Office for the Environment would like to proactively inform farmers about radioactivity and support them with any preparatory measures. The Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG) has produced a leaflet on radioactivity that outlines possible precautionary measures, effects and the particular challenges facing farms. The leaflet was not drawn up exclusively for the case of Ukraine. It serves as a precautionary measure and is intended to help prepare for possible scenarios of a radiological event (in Switzerland or abroad).
The leaflet contains practical recommendations for the protection of farms and the safety of the food chain in the event of radioactive contamination. Some of the precautionary recommendations are also useful regardless of the current situation in Ukraine in order to prepare a farm for an extraordinary situation. This includes, for example, the recommendation to store feed supplies for at least 10 days, but also the recommendation of the Office for Civil Protection (ABS) to install the Alertswiss alarm app on your smartphone.
