Registration of children of Liechtenstein parents

Registration with the Civil Registry Office

Children of Liechtenstein parents acquire Liechtenstein citizenship. This applies regardless of whether the parents are married at the time of birth or not.

This requires registration with the Civil Registry Office.

The following original documents must be submitted for this purpose to the Zivilstandsamt Vaduz:

• the birth certificate of the child
  (in the case of residence abroad additionally residence confirmations of the child's parents, in the original, not older than 6 months)
   
• for children born outside marriage additionally the paternity acknowledgment, in the original

in the case of foreign citizenship of one of the parents and residence abroad, documents of this parent are also necessary for registration of birth.
Please inquire at the Civil Registry Office Vaduz, which documents must be submitted by the foreign parent.
Depending on citizenship, marital status and residence, these may vary.

The documents can be handed in personally at the counter at the Civil Registry Office Vaduz or sent by mail to the Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office, St. Florinsgasse 3, 9490 Vaduz. (Processing time approx. 5 - 10 working days).
