Tax exemption

Tax exemption for vehicle owners with a disability

Holders of vehicles who have a disability may apply to the Office of Road Transport for exemption from motor vehicle taxes. The request must be submitted in writing to the Office of Road Traffic . The following requirements must be met, or be evident from the application:

  • Requirement for a vehicle (justification why the applicant is dependent on a vehicle.
  • Confirmation of any vehicle modification by the implementing agency (if the vehicle has been/needs to be modified)
  • Confirmation of the doctor that the use of public transports can not be expected.
  • Confirmation of the doctor that in his opinion the safe driving of a vehicle is also given with the disability (if necessary with modifications)

The Office of Road Traffic further requires the data of the vehicle, which is to be exempt from tax. If a person has several vehicles, only one vehicle can be exempt from tax.

If the Office for Road Traffic has doubts about the fitness of an applicant to drive, it reserves the right to order an inspection drive.
