Pedestrian and bicycle traffic

Liechtenstein's transport policy pursues the goal of meeting current and future mobility needs as efficiently and environmentally soundly as possible. Increasing the share of non-motorized traffic makes an important contribution to this.

Pedestrian and bicycle traffic has considerable, currently untapped potential for improving the transport system, reducing the burden on the environment and promoting health. It also strengthens soft tourism and leads to savings in public and private spending on mobility.

Walking and cycling should develop into an equal third pillar of mobility alongside private motorized transport and public transport.

The promotion of pedestrian and bicycle traffic and especially bicycle traffic is part of the Mobility Concept.

Walking is quality of life, because getting around under one's own power is healthy, eventful, social, inexpensive and environmentally friendly. In terms of numbers, pedestrians are the strongest in traffic. Almost all people are pedestrians. One third of all everyday journeys are made on foot. Moreover, all traffic begins and ends with a footpath.

No other means of transport, apart from your own feet, has such a good environmental balance as the bicycle. It produces no pollutants, no noise, takes up little space and is good for health and fitness. In addition, cycling is easy on private and public finances.

The Liechtenstein's network of bicycle paths is well developed. It consists of 350 km of cycling and biking trails, which can be combined into more than 22 attractive tours. With various connections to the bike path network of our neighbors in Austria and the Switzerland there are countless other options available.

In 2009, the Mobility Management Office was also entrusted with the task of "Coordination of Slow Traffic". The coordination office is the point of contact for all issues relating to non-motorized traffic as well as the interface to the municipalities in Liechtenstein.
