Natural hazard processes
The Office of Civil Protection deals with the following natural hazards, classified by their cause:
Hydrological / meteorological natural hazards
- Flood: Inundation, bank erosion, overbank debris flow (riprap)
- Storm: Thunderstorms, gales (more info at MeteoSwitzerland)
- Avalanche: Snow and ice avalanche (WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research)
- Forest fire: Current forest fire risk and measures
Geological natural hazards
- Mass movements: Landslide, rock/boulder fall, rock slide, landslide
- Earthquakes (more info at Swiss Earthquake Service - ETHZ Zurich)
