Death abroad

If a Liechtenstein citizen or a foreigner resident in the Principality of Liechtenstein dies abroad, the relatives are obliged to send the original death certificate or death certificate to the Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office so that the death can be registered in Liechtenstein.
The Liechtenstein Civil Registry Office then draws up the death record (inheritance certificate), which is forwarded to the deceased person's municipality of residence or civil commune. This in turn collects the inventory and transmits the documents to the Princely Land Court for the probate proceedings.
