Field of activity

Depending on the specialist training, the field of activity includes the production, fitting and sale of spectacles, contact lenses and other visual aids as well as refraction determination.

Professional aptitude/further training

Professional aptitude is possessed by anyone who can prove successful completion of optician training with a certificate of competence or a diploma.

A certificate of competence is the certificate of successful completion of an optician's apprenticeship or other confirmation of completion of equivalent training.

A diploma is the certificate of successful completion of the federal higher professional examination in the optician's profession or another equivalent training course leading to a diploma.

Special features

In order to obtain a license in accordance with Art. 26 let. b (GesV), proof of at least two years of full-time work in a relevant company must be provided.
