Visa Information System (VIS)
The Visa Information System (VIS) is a system for the exchange of visa data between the Schengen states. The main objectives of the VIS are to simplify visa application procedures, facilitate checks at external borders and increase security - also for the applicant.
The Visa Information System (VIS) has been in operation since October 11, 2011. The visa offices of the Schengen states are gradually being connected to the VIS. To implement the VIS, consular representations and border crossing points in the Schengen area are connected to the central VIS database.Official website of the European UnionMore documents
