Hunting planning and wildlife protection

Organization

Decisions and orders in the field of the hunting law are made by the government. The authority in charge of hunting concerns is the Forest and Landscape Department of the Office for the Environment.

Hunting planning

The government appoints a hunting advisory board  consisting of two representatives of Liechtenstein hunting tenants, one representative of farmers, one representative of forest owners, and the head of the Dept. of Forest and Landscape of the Office for the Environment as chairman.

This hunting advisory board is to be consulted on all fundamental questions of hunting, in particular also in the planning and elaboration of projects that may affect the protection of wild mammals and birds. However, the main task of the Hunting Advisory Council is to prepare the Shooting Plan.

Wildlife Protection

Recreational outdoor activities have increased dramatically in recent years. Snowshoes and skis, in particular, allow people to engage in winter activities away from marked areas. In the process, humans are encroaching on the very spaces to which wildlife retreats for protection from human disturbance and disturbance.

Hibernation zones allow for the temporal and spatial management of habitat use by humans and wildlife. Since Nov. 1, 2014, the Ordinance on Winter Resting Zones for Wildlife (WRZV) has been in effect in Liechtenstein to address this issue.

Entering the winter resting zones is prohibited from December 15 to April 15 (mountain area) or from January 1 to March 31 (Rhine valley side). The winter resting zones are marked in the terrain with appropriate notice boards
