Bilateral Development Cooperation

The largest pillar of IHCD is Bilateral Development Cooperation, for which the Liechtenstein Development Service (LED) is responsible. For this purpose, the LED receives about 65 percent of the total funds annually.

The LED maintains project offices in Chişinău (Moldova) and La Paz (Bolivia). Currently, the LED is active in nine priority countries These are Moldova, Bolivia, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Tanzania. Thematically, LED focuses on the following topics:

  • Sustainable food system with a focus on agroecology;
  • Vocational training and employability.

Details on the LED’s priorities can be found in their strategy 2023-2026. The cooperation between the Liechtenstein government and the LED foundation under private law is regulated by an owner strategy, which is supplemented and concretized by annual performance mandates. The LED foundation board decides on the individual projects.
