Infrastructure Operation

The Infrastructure Operations Division of the Civil Engineering and Geoinformation Office is responsible for the maintenance of roads, bridges and tunnels owned by the country and used for public and private transportation. All public roads that are not owned by the state are maintained by the respective local municipality.

Road maintenance work must be carried out taking into account economic, ecological and social aspects. Two core tasks are derived from these requirements:

  • Operational maintenance of roads, bridges and tunnels, in particular the cleaning of roads, paths and squares as well as the organization and implementation of winter road maintenance on rural roads including sidewalks and national cycle paths.
  • Structural maintenance, i.e. repair and renovation of roads, bridges and tunnels

In addition to the core tasks of operational and structural road maintenance, the Infrastructure Operations Division is regularly deployed to assist with major events such as national holidays, international football matches, the Tour de Suisse, etc. Within the administration, the employees are also available for all kinds of transportation, train operations and various other jobs that require a lot of help.
