Register of Cultural Property

The Law on the Protection, Preservation and Care of Cultural Property of June 9, 2016 provides in Art. 31ff. that the Office of Cultural Affairs must maintain a register of cultural property. This register includes, among other things, cultural objects that are part of Liechtenstein's cultural heritage, are of national importance and are located in Liechtenstein.

The register contains a precise description of each cultural property recorded, as well as information on its origin, ownership and right of use, storage or location, and genre.

The register of cultural property is public insofar as it concerns immovable cultural property. Anyone who can credibly demonstrate a justified interest is entitled to be granted access to the register of cultural property and to be provided with an excerpt.

The register of cultural property is currently under construction and is therefore not yet available.

Protected Cultural Property

Since 1950, over 300 cultural properties have been placed under monument protection in Liechtenstein. These include movable cultural properties (such as altars, documents, church treasures) and immovable cultural properties (churches, chapels, factories, farmhouses etc.).

The list of protected cultural properties can be viewed via the Geodata Portal of the Liechtenstein National Administration (topic Society, Culture\Layer Monument Protection and Archaeology) and is intended to provide interested persons or persons involved in construction activities with information about significant cultural objects as quickly as possible.
