Children's rights

All children have the right to be adequately cared for, nurtured and protected and to participate in society. These fundamental rights of children are enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child Liechtenstein ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1996. 

Children's rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child are explicitly mentioned in the Children and Youth Act. The Office of Social Services, as a children and youth authority, shares responsibility for the implementation of children's rights in a wide variety of areas.

Liechtenstein, as a State Party to the Convention on the Rights of the Child reports at regular intervals to the relevant United Nations Commission. The Liechtenstein's country reports can be found on the homepage of the Office of Foreign Affairs.

The Children and Youth Advisory Council  (kijub) represents the interests of children and young people at the state level. It has a right to a say in political decisions of statewide importance for children and young people. 

The Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents (OSKJ) is the monitoring body for the implementation of children's rights and the contact and complaints office for children and adolescents issues. It has been integrated into the Association for Human Rights since December 2016.
