Naturalization
Naturalization is always a personal matter in which the individual circumstances of the applicant must be taken into account. For this reason, we have compiled the following basic information regarding naturalization into Liechtenstein’s national and municipal citizenship.
Please pay particular attention to the information regarding the procedure, as the steps described there must be strictly followed.
Naturalization refers to a situation in which a person does not currently hold Liechtenstein citizenship and has no ancestors who held Liechtenstein citizenship. The person therefore has no connection whatsoever to Liechtenstein citizenship.
If ancestors with Liechtenstein citizenship exist or are presumed to exist, so-called“registration” may bepossible . Such registration—like naturalization—is always a personal matter in which the individual circumstances of the applicant must be taken into account. Please contact us for further information.
The various naturalization procedures, as well as the general and procedure-specific requirements and grounds for exclusion from naturalization, are set forth in the Citizenship Act of January 4, 1934 (BüG), LGBl. 1960 No. 23.
The requirements and grounds for exclusion are assessed during the various stages of theprocedure(see“Procedure” for details) through relevant questions.
According to the Citizenship Act of January 4, 1934 (BüG), LGBl. 1960 No. 23, the following naturalization procedures are available:
· Naturalization through a simplified procedure following marriage or the establishment of a registered partnership
· Naturalization under the simplified procedure based on long-term residence
· Naturalization under the simplified procedure due to statelessness
· Naturalization through the standard procedure

This procedure must be followed for all naturalization applications to ensure a consistent review process and uniform, fair treatment of all applications.
