Spatial and Transport Planning Department

Civil Aviation

The Office of Structural Engineering and Spatial Planning is the official office of the Liechtenstein National Administration which is in charge of the subject area of civil aviation and also executes individual aviation legislation transactions specifically assigned to the Office. This includes in particular the following tasks:

  • Processing applications for the granting of an exemption from the drone flight ban in the drone flight ban zone  "Government Buildings - Parliament Buildings - Vaduz Castle"; as well as the

  • granting of landing permits of foreign military and state aircraft on Liechtenstein territory (Diplomatic Clearance).

In the field of aviation legislation, there is a historically close relationship with Switzerland. Cooperation between the Swiss and Liechtenstein authorities in the field of civil aviation today is based on the exchange of notes of 2003, LGBl. 2003 No. 40. Based on the exchange of notes, the Swiss aviation legislation is also applied in Liechtenstein and is enforced by the Swiss authorities. The Swiss enactments applicable in the field of aviation legislation are regularly updated and published in Liechtenstein as annexes to the exchange of notes. Cf. the current publication.

The competent aviation authority for Liechtenstein is based on the exchange of notes, the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA). As a rule, the FOCA deals directly with the applicants or parties to the proceedings. Specific applications or questions concerning ongoing procedures should be addressed directly to the FOCA. The AHR is available for general questions concerning civil aviation issues and acts as a coordination point.
