Traffic planning

Transport planning essentially comprises the development of basic principles and concepts for transport planning decisions, strategic transport planning, and the supervision and optimal design of transport systems. The aim is to take into account qualitative and quantitative requirements for the economic efficiency, performance and safety of transport processes for current and future generations - based on knowledge of traffic flow, traffic engineering and traffic organization.

The transport system of Liechtenstein comprises 130 kilometers of country roads (incl. alpine and goods roads) and about 500 kilometers of municipal roads (incl. valley-side dirt roads) as well as 9 kilometers of standard gauge railroad. The Liechtenstein road network is very well connected to the Swiss A13 freeway. Public transport is primarily provided by a well-developed scheduled bus service, supplemented by a regional train service between Feldkirch (Austria) and Buchs (Switzerland) via Nendeln.
