Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

At the Sustainability Summit in September 2015, the UN member states adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable DevelopmentIn the negotiations on the Agenda, Liechtenstein particularly advocated for the topics of rule of law and gender equality, as well as for an effective mechanism to review the implementation of the Agenda. With success: The rule of law is described in the Agenda as "essential" for the realization of sustainable development and anchored in several concrete targets. Equality for women and girls is defined as one of the 17 sustainability goals. In terms of review, the first steps were taken in the Agenda to ensure that this is not left exclusively to governments, but that UN agencies and other international organizations, as well as representatives of civil society, the private sector and other stakeholders, can participate on an equal footing. These objectives were already formulated in 2013 in a resolution on the high-level political forum responsible for reviewing sustainability efforts. They were consolidated in General Assembly Resolution 70/290 on the architecture of the review mechanism for the 2030 Agenda.

In 2019, Liechtenstein presented the first report on national implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the UN High-Level Political Forum in New York. In 2023, the second report was presented. All reports are available at www.llv.li/sdgberichte.
