Relations with Belgium

The representation in Brussels also serves as Liechtenstein’s Embassy to the Kingdom of Belgium. Relations between Belgium and Liechtenstein are of a friendly nature and devoted primarily to cooperation in multilateral matters. The two countries are closely linked to each other through a number of international treaties, with the EEA Agreement representing the most comprehensive form of cooperation.

Belgium is, similar to Liechtenstein, a hereditary constitutional monarchy. Another uniting element is the fact that German is one of Belgium’s official languages. Belgium therefore participates regularly in meetings of the Heads of States of German-speaking countries; in 2021 this meeting will take place in Liechtenstein.
