Radiation protection

Liechtenstein is closely linked with Switzerland in the field of radiation protection on the basis of the customs treaty dating back to 1923. In December 2010, the agreement between the government of the Principality of Liechtenstein and the Swiss Federal Council concerning cooperation in the field of radiation protection came into force. Annex 1 of this agreement lists the Swiss legislation applicable in Liechtenstein.

Annex 2 lists the responsibilities of the Liechtenstein official bodies. The Office of Economic Affairs is the licensing and supervisory authority for establishments in which workers in particular must be protected from ionizing radiation, especially industrial and commercial establishments.

The Office is in constant contact with the relevant specialist agencies in Switzerland in order to be able to react at an early stage in the event of possible dangers.
