Civil Registry Office

The Civil Registry Office is the central authority for civil status events. It keeps the various civil status registers, performs marriages, registers same-sex partnerships, processes births, marriages and deaths, and has foreign civil status events recognized. In addition, the Civil Registry Office is responsible for the registration of Liechtenstein citizens and the registration of children of Liechtenstein fathers born out of wedlock. Further tasks are the maintenance of the register of residence, the issuance of register extracts, documents and confirmations, the issuance of death certificates and the implementation of name changes. The Civil Registry Office also plays an important role with regard to naturalizations, since it carries out naturalizations as a result of long-term residence, naturalizations as a result of marriage, or naturalizations in the ordinary procedure.
