Privacy notice

In the following, the Office for Vocational Training and Career Counseling (ABB), as the responsible body pursuant to Art. 13 and Art. 14 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), informs you about the manner and background of the processing of your personal data in connection with our activities. The following information applies equally to learners/apprentices, their legal guardians, parents, advisors, contact persons of the training/apprenticeship company, vocational trainers, advice seekers and other persons affected by the data processing.

The primary purpose of processing personal data is to fulfil the legal mandate incumbent upon us. This includes general consultation before and during basic vocational training as well as further/continuing education and training. During the process of career choice and basic vocational training, learners/apprentices are provided with advice and guidance in close cooperation with teachers and training/apprenticeship companies. In addition to that, the Office for Vocational Training and Career Counseling manages and operates the Career Information Centre (BIZ).

We mainly carry out the following activities requiring data processing:

  • maintaining a directory of apprenticeship companies and vacant apprenticeship positions,
  • approving apprenticeship contracts,
  • preparing educational ordinances,
  • granting education/training approvals,
  • issuing grade/reports cards and certificates of proficiency,
  • vocational, study and career choice consultation.

The legal bases for data processing activities are set out in Articles 13, 37, 55, 56, 64 and 67 of the Law on vocational education and training (BBG). If the processing of personal data is not based on our public mandate, the legal basis in individual cases is your consent pursuant to Article 6 (1) (a) of GDPR.

The following personal data are collected, recorded and processed as part of our activities:

  • learners/apprentices: surname, first name, date of birth, country of residence, canton of residence, address, telephone number, insurance number, sex, nationality, correspondence language, email address, health data if applicable;
  • for underage learners/apprentices: names of parents or legal guardians, country of residence, canton of residence, address, date of birth, sex, nationality, email address, names of siblings if applicable;
  • in addition to that, for advice seekers: data on previous education, training, certificates, grades; information from personality tests, interest tests, health data if necessary;
  • contact details of contact person/educator: surname, first name, company address, email address.

If the data is not collected from you personally, information on personal data is derived from the following sources: central master data of the Principality of Liechtenstein (ZSD), Kompass (official ABB software).

The Office for Vocational Training and Career Counseling transmits your data to the competent vocational school as well as to the bodies responsible for conducting exams and other qualification procedures in order to allow them to fulfil their duties under the Law and/or Ordinance on vocational education and training (BBG; BBV).

The transfer of personal data to Switzerland as a third country takes place in accordance with our membership in the association Interessengemeinschaft Informatik im Berufsbildungswesen IGIB/GRIF for the purpose of intercantonal cooperation in vocational education and training. Switzerland has been certified by the EU Commission as having an adequate level of data protection pursuant to Article 45 of GDPR.

The storage period for data processing is based on special legal requirements regarding retention periods or the Archiving Act. Once the purpose of the data processing has been achieved and there are no legal retention periods that prevent the deletion of your data, the personal data will become part of the respective deletion concept.
