Name management after marriage

Liechtenstein nationals are subject to Liechtenstein name legislation (according to IPR).

The bride and groom have to decide which of their names they want to use as their common family name (family name is the name which will pass to the children).

The spouse whose surname does not become a common surname may declare that he/she prefixes or suffixes his/her previous surname to the common surname, placing a hyphen.

If this spouse already bears a double name, he or she may use only one of these names of his or her choice.

If the spouses do not determine a common surname, each spouse shall retain his or her previous surname.
