Fire departments in Liechtenstein

Each of the 11 municipalities in Liechtenstein maintains a municipal fire department in accordance with the Fire Service Act. These are able to handle larger operations independently. The Vaduz fire department also acts as a base for the whole of Liechtenstein. Five companies in the country have company fire departments that can also be called upon to provide assistance. In total, around 600 men and women provide voluntary service.

The municipalities are responsible for financing the fire departments. However, the investments and operating costs of the base are borne by the country. In Liechtenstein, there is no state building insurance and no mandatory fire department tax.

Nevertheless, Liechtenstein's fire departments have a good infrastructure as well as modern and appropriate vehicles and equipment.
