General market development

The market is supplied by a stable number of providers that is very high in relation to the size of the market. The notification register comprises 52 companies at the end of the year.

Market development - fixed network

In 2024, the utility Liechtensteinische Kraftwerke has offered subscriber lines exclusively via fibre optics for the first time, after decommissioning the last copper and coaxial access lines in the previous year. In the view of the Office, the market is functioning perfectly, with a stable number of providers, and stands out in European and international comparison thanks to its excellent broadband connectivity.

The number of internet connections is growing steadily in line with the development of households and workplaces. The continuing demand for higher bandwidths means that 90% of the connections in use already have at least 200Mbit/s download performance. Connections with at least 1 Gbit/s have already reached a share of 27%.

The long-term decline in landline telephone connections is slowing down. The total number of landline telephone connections fell by 4% to 9,900, which means that 40% of households and workplaces still use a landline telephone connection, compared to 60% in 2019, when the country extended Telecom Liechtenstein's universal service obligation.

Market development - mobile telephony

The trend in favour of mobile phone connections with a Liechtenstein +423 number continues in small steps. These increased by 800, while those with a Swiss +41 number increased by 300. Overall, there was little change in the final figure of 51,500 (+2.2%) mobile phone connections in Liechtenstein, with connections with a Liechtenstein +423 number now achieving a market share of 38%.
