Secondary school
Students enter secondary school after completing the fifth year of primary school. Around 25 percent of pupils attend secondary school each year. Secondary school is a general education school with different levels of difficulty and comprises grades six to nine. In particular, it prepares pupils for working life or the transition to secondary school. Small classes and individualization allow for a differentiated approach to the students.
The following compulsory subjects are taught at the secondary school: German, mathematics, computer science, real sciences, English, home economics, textiles and technical design, religion and culture, music, visual arts, life skills, project lessons and sport. In addition, a wide range of optional subjects are offered, such as geometric drawing, Italian, Spanish and French.
Students with school difficulties are supported as part of special school measures or enhanced special educational measures (special education).
In order to prepare students for the most successful transition possible from lower secondary level to further education, the 9th school year is designed on a more individual basis. The orientation of the school program to the needs of the individual pupil is determined in the assessment meeting between parents, pupil and teacher in the spring of year 8.
Through the class teacher, all pupils have a reference person who supports them in choosing a career and in many other areas. Pupils who successfully complete secondary school have the opportunity to attend a voluntary 10th school year.
