Natural hazards

Natural hazards include all processes and impacts of nature that can be harmful to humans and property.

Natural disasters, even of devastating proportions, have repeatedly occurred in Liechtenstein. As settlements become denser and material assets larger, the extent of damage from comparable natural impacts has increased considerably in recent decades. Today, therefore, attempts are being made to counter the effects of natural hazards with the help of integral risk management.

In Liechtenstein, natural hazards such as floods, storms, landslides and avalanches are particularly well known. Forest fires are less frequent. Strong earthquakes are hardly known, but can also occur in Liechtenstein.

An overview of the current natural hazard situation in Liechtenstein and Switzerland can be found at this Natural Hazard Portal.
