The service acts as a hub and first point of contact for people with various, predominantly complex psychosocial problems. It organizes and coordinates assistance after inpatient stays in foreign psychiatric clinics as well as after internal (Social Services SD, Child and Youth Services KJD, Finance and Central Service FZD) referrals and reports from various social institutions and associations (e.g. Association for Assisted Living, Probation Service), authorities (e.g. police, public prosecutor's office, women's refuge, district court, public prosecutor's office) or the established medical profession and therapists. Those affected can also contact the service themselves for support or referral.

Individual assistance is provided for people with a wide range of problems or crises, including clients on the margins of society who are difficult to manage. Together with the social psychiatric service providers in the country, the goal of reintegration into society with an independent lifestyle (depending on individual circumstances) is pursued.
