Background

Commissions and advisory boards

Commissions and advisory councils are either charged with the independent transaction of business (commissions) or are standing commissions (advisory councils) that advise the government on its decisions. The members of these standing commissions are appointed by Parliament or by the Government on the basis of a law or ordinance.

The business of these institutions is under the supervision of the responsible member of the government and they are accountable to the government. Many of the commissions report on their activities in the government's accountability report to Parliament

In addition to the permanent commissions, the government may establish non-permanent advisory commissions, which do not have a legal basis. These are not included in the state calendar.

Foundations and Institutions under Public Legal Division

The Constitution describes that special corporations, institutions and foundations under public Legal Division may be established by laws to take care of economic, social and cultural tasks. The business of these institutions and foundations is subject to the supervision of the government.

The members of the relevant foundation, administrative and supervisory boards shall be elected by Parliament or by the Government on the basis of the relevant law.
