Vaccinations

Protection against infections

Vaccinations provide very reliable protection against certain bacterial and viral diseases. Along with hygiene and better nutrition, they have played a major role in ensuring that infections are no longer the most common cause of death in our country.

Childhood diseases - not always harmless

After birth, newborns are still protected for a few months by the antibodies absorbed from breast milk. In order to protect them also afterwards against the not always harmlessly proceeding child diseases, the vaccinations begin at the age of approximately 2 months. The pediatrician follows the Swiss Vaccination Schedule 2024. The Federal Vaccination Commission reviews the vaccination schedule and adjusts it regularly.

Vaccinate: protection for me, for you - for all of us

Vaccinating means not only protecting yourself, but also taking responsibility in society. Because some children and adults cannot get vaccinated. They are dependent on the support of society. But for this, more than 90% of the population (children and adults) must be vaccinated against the corresponding disease (so-called herd immunity). Otherwise, these diseases break out again and again and threaten the unvaccinated.

Questions?

The brochure "Vaccinate children? Yes! Why?" from the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) addresses questions about vaccination. The brochure is now attached to each yellow preventive care booklet of children. If interested, this brochure can be ordered from the Office of Public Health.

Also helpful are the homepage InfoVac, an information center for vaccination questions, and the FOPH's information on all aspects of vaccination vaccinations and prophylaxis.
