Wood as a building material and energy source
Wood as a building material
As one of the few renewable raw materials in our country, wood has an important economic significance. The continuing increase in timber construction and rising demand for interior finishing products and furniture shows that wood is back in fashion.
Around 110 companies with over 700 employees are active in the timber industry (forestry companies, forestry contractors, joineries, sawmills, kitchen and window manufacturers, etc.) in Liechtenstein.
In Liechtenstein, the "wooden ones" are united in the Holzkreislauf association. Sawmillers, carpenters, joiners and foresters work together to promote wood as a domestic raw material.
Wood as an energy source
The demand for wood as a CO2-neutral fuel is also steadily increasing. In Liechtenstein today, around 50 large combustion plants (>70 Kw) and over 9,000 small combustion plants (<70 Kw) such as tiled stoves, fireplaces, etc. are operated with wood. As a renewable raw material, wood substitutes fossil fuels and thus makes an important contribution to reducing the greenhouse gas effect.
